Annual Picnic in La Tour de Salvagny
See the Photos !
At least 50 people, Irish and French participated in the annual Irish picnic on Sunday June 28, at the Hippodrome at La Tour de Salvagny. This year there were many new faces, and the big game was guessing the origin of the people from their accents. News of the past year was exchanged, and plans for the year to come.
One of the highlights of the day was the puc fada ("the long shot" in Gaelic), the senior section of which was won by ex-Laois hurling star Philip Delaney in a fiercely contested competition...
The result of the junior section was still in doubt when we went to press... The ladies were represented by a number of camogie players.
As people said goodbye they promised to meet at some of the events organised by the association during the year.

Mick Moran took part in a "Gaelic Programme" in Brittany during the last week. While there he trained over 500 students from College and Lycée in the art of Gaelic Football and in the Celtic culture generally.
The Gaelic Programme is organised each year by a number of PE teachers in the region around Rennes through the European County Board (ECB )and the French Federation of Gaelic Football (FFFG ).
All of this is done in an effort to develop young Gaelic Footballers for the strong club scene that exists there and also because Gaelic Football is on the "brevet" and the "BAC" examinations.
A small coaching programme is put in place and the basic skills are taught while ech two hour session ends in a match. The children love it because its fast, furious and challenging while the teachers love it because it combines all the best things from other sports like ball handling and accuracy with the fact that girls and boys can play on equal terms.
