Up next for the film club is a Christmas Special of Father Ted !

Father Ted is a sitcom created by Irish writers Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews, broadcast from 1995 to 1998. The series includes 25 episodes across three seasons, plus a Christmas special. It is set on the fictional Craggy Island, off Ireland’s west coast.

The show follows the misadventures of three exiled Roman Catholic priests: Father Ted Crilly, the simple-minded Father Dougal McGuire, and the crude, alcoholic Father Jack Hackett, who live together with their devoted housekeeper Mrs Doyle. They have been banished to the island by Bishop Len Brennan as punishment for various past incidents. Despite its silly and absurd humour, the series subtly explores themes such as loneliness, agnosticism, existentialism and purgatory.

Father Ted won multiple British Academy Television Awards and remains a beloved classic in Ireland and the UK. In 2019, it was ranked the second greatest British sitcom of all time.
